7 Ways To Beat Doggy Boredom

August 1, 2019

Does your dog sometimes get into mischief while you are out? Does Fido often come running up to you holding his favorite toy? Stimulation, entertainment, and enrichment are all crucial to your pet’s health and well-being. Read on as a Forest Hill, MD vet lists some great ways to beat the bored doggy blues.

Training

Learning can be fun! Many dogs actually like learning new things. Start with basic doggy obedience commands, like Sit, Stay, Come, Heel, and Lay Down. Once Fido has mastered these, show him some fun tricks. Or, move on to more advanced training.

Puzzle Toys

Puzzle toys are great boredom busters for dogs. You can also offer your canine pal toys that incorporate treats. Fido can spend hours trying to get his snack!

Window View

If you can do so safely, give your pooch access to a window with a good view. Your furry pal may spend hours every day just watching birds and squirrels. This can help keep him occupied when he is home alone.

Toy Rotation

Toys are definitely at the top of the list of doggy entertainment options. Fido is definitely adorable when he spots a new plaything! Change your canine buddy’s toys out regularly to keep things fun and fresh for him. There are now some pretty adorable modern toys you can get your pooch. Keep that cute tail wagging by getting Fido an automated laser pointer, a mechanical ball launcher, or an ‘interactive’ ball.

Exercise

Making sure Fido is getting enough activity is very important. Walks are probably the most popular way for your pup to get his daily doggy workout in, but some of our canine companions also enjoy running, hiking, or even swimming. Ask your vet for specific advice.

Exploration

A change of scenery is a great way to get Fido’s tail wagging. Dogs love going to new places! Don’t take the same route every day when you walk your dog. Changing things up will be good for you both. Your furry buddy will also enjoy visiting a park or beach, or exploring a new trail.

Games

There are lots of fun games you can play with your pet. Tug O War, Red Light Green Light, and Simon Says can all be modified for Fido.
