Resolutions For Bunny Owners

Happy New Year! Or, for those of you with bunnies, maybe we should say ‘Hoppy’ New Year. Rabbits are not only super cute, they are also very mischievous and playful. In order to keep Floppy happy and healthy, you’ll need to make sure she’s getting enough entertainment and stimulation. Those are great things to work into your resolutions for 2022! A Forest Hill, MD vet suggests some good resolutions for people with rabbits below.

Provide Plenty Of Chew Toys

If Floppy can’t chew enough to wear her teeth down, she could develop some very painful dental problems. You don’t have to break the bank keeping your bunny’s toybox full, though. You can upcycle many common household items into playthings for your frisky little friend. You’ll find lots of ideas online for upcycling wood, wicker, cardboard, and even copy paper into rabbit toys.

Keep Up With Bunnyproofing

Your adorable pet’s main goal in life is basically to nibble on anything and everything in range. This can be quite dangerous, as the common household contains dozens—if not hundreds—of items that are toxic to rabbits. Make sure that your home is safe for Floppy! Keep things like toxic plants, wires and cords, personal items, laundry, books, phones, medicine, and anything small or sharp in spots she can’t reach. Ask your vet for more information.

Take Time To Play

Floppy probably won’t be interested in pouncing on a catnip mouse, and she isn’t really good at Fetch, but that doesn’t mean you can’t play with her. Roll a ball towards her, or teach her some tricks. Incorporating food is a great way to interact with your cute pet.

Change Things Up

Floppy’s area needs to be bunnyproofed. However, that doesn’t mean she needs to be confined to one area for the rest of her life. Moving her play area around can help keep things fresh. Just bunnyproof the new spot as well.

Offer Free Time

Bunnies get restless and bored if they are stuck in their cages all the time, and who can blame them? Make sure Floppy gets lots of free time every day!

Enjoy The Binkies

Floppy’s binkies are just as adorable as Fluffy’s purrs or Fido’s tail wags. Pat yourself on the back when you see your furry buddy doing her happy dance!
