Tips For Choosing Cat Furniture

Cats are very easy keepers. However, while Fluffy won’t mind using your bed or sofa, she’ll really appreciate having some things of her own. There are some things to keep in mind when choosing cat furniture, however. Read on as a local Forest Hill, MD vet offers some advice on picking out your pet’s ‘purrniture.’

Senior Cats

Older cats often have a hard time jumping and climbing. Get Fluffy something comfortable, with the lowest levels close to the ground.

Kittens

If you have a kitten, your tiny ball of fur will spend a lot of her time playing. Opt for a fun activity center, one that incorporates lots of toys. Just be sure to pick something that your frisky pet will still fit into when she’s a bit older. Otherwise, she’ll quickly outgrow it.

Multiple Cats

If you have more than one cat, buy pieces that will fit all of your pets at the same time. Kitties can be quite territorial. You don’t want Mittens and Fluffy fighting over who gets to use the cat tower!

Shy Cats

Some of our feline pals are very timid. If your cute pet is a bit of a scaredy-cat, get her pieces that offer her lots of hiding spots, such as kitty condos and pet tents or tipis.

Cats Who Like Heights

Are you constantly plucking your kitty off bookcases and countertops? If your cat likes heights, she may enjoy a cat tower, a catwalk, or even some cat shelves. That way, your feline overlord will be able to get a good view of her kingdom and servants.

All Cats

Our feline buddies are all unique, but they do have one thing in common: a love of soft napping spots. Get your drowsy pet a few comfy beds to look adorable in. Remember to wash them and rearrange them regularly, to keep things fun and fresh for your kitty.

DIY Options

Are you looking to save money? Do you enjoy doing crafts? Why not make your cat’s things? For example, you can make your kitty a pet tent out of a tee shirt and wire hangar. You’ll find some great ideas and instructions online. (Tip: box castles can make great projects for kids.)
